Our Unforgettable 5-Night Adventure at Monkey Mia RAC
We recently immersed ourselves in the coastal paradise of Monkey Mia RAC, a trip we’d eagerly planned four months ahead, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of amazing!
The Resort Oasis:
Monkey Mia RAC turned out to be a sweet spot, a caravan park that felt more like a resort. Picture this – a chill pool area, not one but two restaurants serving happy hour delights. During our first happy hour, a dolphin decided to join the beach party – a seriously cool moment! We marked special occasions with anniversary and birthday celebrations at both restaurants, savoring the delightful food and vibrant atmosphere. The resort also boasts a playground and mini-golf for added fun. The only minor hiccup? Powered sites were a tad far from the main hub, but no biggie. Oh, and a heads up – emus are everywhere! So, keep those outside bins sealed tight; these curious birds will investigate anything left out!
Mesmerizing Sunsets and Glass-Like Waters:
Monkey Mia’s sunsets are a sight to behold, painting the skies with hues of beauty. On calm afternoons, the water turns into a reflective glass surface. Our evenings were spent floating on stand-up paddleboards, occasionally treated to the playful sight of dolphins passing by – an unexpected bonus!

Dolphin Reserve Monthly Pass:
Opting for a monthly ticket at the Monkey Mia Dolphin Reserve was a game-changer. Trust me, the 7:45 am dolphin experience isn’t always at 7:45 – our finned friends made a fashionable entrance around 9 am on the first morning! The early session can get crowded (we’re talking 100-150 people), so we’d suggest making it a morning affair. Grab breakfast at the cafe or chill on the beach, ensuring you catch all three dolphin encounters – each offering a unique perspective, and with fewer crowds during the latter two.

Adventure to Francois Peron National Park:
A day trip to Francois Peron National Park became a highlight we’d highly recommend. The 50-kilometer sand road provided its fair share of laughs as we navigated the soft and bumpy sections. We witnessed a few brave souls getting bogged down! With tires at 15psi and a good dose of momentum, we explored captivating spots like Cape Peron, Skipjack Point (hello, stingrays and baby sharks!), and the serene Bottle Bay, culminating in the breathtaking Red Cliff Cove at the end of the beach.

Exploring Denham and Beyond:
The nearby town of Denham, just 15 minutes from Monkey Mia, served as our go-to spot for supplies. With an IGA and a supermarket, it had everything we needed, plus a killer foreshore, jetty, playground, and an informative visitor center. Our visit to the Ocean Park Aquarium in Denham was a hit, offering a small but engaging experience with knowledgeable guides providing insights into marine life.
Extended Adventures at Eagles Bluff:
Our attempts to add an extra night at Monkey Mia fell short, leading us to the hidden gem of Eagles Bluff, a mere 15 minutes outside of town. This private paradise, complete with our little beach, turned out to be a perfect addition to our coastal escapade. For more details, check it out on WikiCamps – you won’t be disappointed!

In a nutshell, Monkey Mia and its surroundings are a haven for adventure seekers and nature lovers. We hope our journey inspires your own exploration of this coastal wonderland! 🐬🌅🏝🏊♂️🚗🦜
