1. Perth Beaches

Perth boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. From Cottesloe to Scarborough and Trigg, these sandy shores offer great opportunities for swimming, sandcastle building, and picnicking. The Indian Ocean provides a perfect backdrop for family beach days. Our favourite was Scarborough (see number 11).

2. Yanchep National Park

Venture north of Perth to Yanchep National Park, where families can explore lush bushland, spot koalas, and even discover underground caves like Crystal Cave and Cabaret Cave. The park’s picnic areas are perfect for family lunches and BBQs. There’s also some great snorkelling spots in the area.

3. Kings Park and Botanic Garden

Kings Park is an iconic Perth destination, offering breathtaking views of the city and the Swan River. It’s not just a stunning location; it’s also home to beautiful gardens, playgrounds, and picnic areas. Families can enjoy a leisurely day out, taking in the natural beauty and exploring the treetop walkways. We were so blown away by the incredible view!! We didn’t get to see the entire park as it is HUGE, but you could spend a lot of time here! It’s just beautiful.

4. Swan Valley

Swan Valley, an easy drive from Perth, is famous for its vineyards and gourmet produce. While wine tasting may not be suitable for the little ones, you can explore the local markets, enjoy chocolate tastings, and have a delightful day out amidst scenic vineyards.

5. Art Gallery of Western Australia

If you have budding artists in the family, the Art Gallery of Western Australia offers free entry and a fantastic opportunity to appreciate local and international art. Regularly changing exhibitions make every visit a unique experience.

6. Perth Cultural Centre

The Perth Cultural Centre is a hub of creativity and community. Home to cultural institutions like the State Library and the Western Australian Museum, you can immerse your family in history, culture, and knowledge—all for free.

7. Elizabeth Quay

Elizabeth Quay is a vibrant, waterfront entertainment precinct located in the heart of Perth. While some of the attractions here may come with a fee, simply strolling along the quay, enjoying the artistic sculptures and architecture, is a delightful and cost-free experience. There is so much to do and see, there is a playground which the girls enjoyed. We also caught the ferry across the river (for a fee) and back and had a stroll through the city.

The Rio Tinto Naturescape, located in Kings Park, is a must-visit for families. This unique nature-based playground encourages kids to engage with the environment. They can wade in creeks, climb rocks, and experience the outdoors as nature intended. We loved this spot! It is super unique and fun for the whole family.

Fremantle, or “Freo” as the locals call it, is a bustling port city with a rich history and vibrant atmosphere. While there are plenty of shops and restaurants, you can enjoy simply wandering around the historic streets, visiting the Fremantle Markets, and even taking a dip in the kid-friendly Bathers Beach.

10. Caversham Wildlife Park
